New movies being released in October 2024:
Joker: Folie à Deux
The highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 film Joker will take things in a slightly different direction; it’s being slated as a musical. Joaquin Phoenix, who won an Oscar for his performance in the first film, will reprise his role as Arthur Fleck (aka the Joker) and Lady Gaga is set to play Harley Quinn.

The Menendez Brothers
The recent Netflix show Monsters helmed by Ryan Murphy sparked controversy for its portrayal of the Menendez brothers, Erik and Lyle – who in real life were found guilty of the brutal murder of their parents. In The Menendez Brothers, Erik and Lyle tell their own story…

Woman of the Hour
Based on a true story, Woman of the Hour follows Cheryl Bradshaw – who in 1978, ended up on a date with serial killer Rodney Alcala after they both went on the television show The Dating Game. Anna Kendrick stars and makes her directorial debut in this crime thriller.

Apollo 13: Survival
A cinematic re-telling of the crisis NASA faced in April 1970; three astronauts were halfway to the moon when their spacecraft suffered a catastrophic explosion.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
A sequel to the 1988 film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice once again follows Lydia Deetz but this time it’s her teenage daughter Astrid who accidentally opens the portal to the Afterlife… Michael Keaton reprises his iconic role in the film as does Winona Ryder.

The Substance
Starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid, The Substance follows Elisabeth Sparkle – a woman who is fired on her 50th birthday. Distraught, Elisabeth decides to try a miraculous substance that promises to make her the best version of herself but instead gives her horrifying side effects.

The Fabulous Four
Starring Susan Sarandon, Bette Midler, Megan Mullally and Sheryl Lee Ralph, The Fabulous Four follows three friends as they travel across the country to be bridesmaids in a fourth friends’ wedding.

Sleeping Dogs
Sleeping Dogs follows Ray Freeman, an ex-homicide detective with memory loss. However, when Ray revisits a case he can’t remember, he realises he can investigate it again but this time with a fresh perspective. Russell Crowe stars in the gripping thriller.

Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes
Delve into Elizabeth Taylor’s life thanks to this new documentary, which features newly discovered interviews with the late icon as well as unprecedented access to her personal archive.

It Ends With Us
Based on the best-selling Colleen Hoover novel, It Ends With Us follows Lily Bloom – a woman, played by Blake Lively, who has overcome a traumatic childhood and is now dating a charming neurosurgeon named Ryle. But when Lily’s first love re-enters her life, she sees a dark side to Ryle that’s reminiscent of her parent’s turbulent relationship.

Brats
This documentary chronicles how the ‘Brat Pack’ came to be as well as the impact of being a member had on their lives and careers. ‘Brats’ Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, Timothy Hutton, Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Lea Thompson and Jon Cryer all appear in the film as does David Blum – the journalist who coined the term Brat Pack.

Twisters
A standalone sequel/reimagining to the classic 1996 film Twister, Twisters stars Glen Powell of Top Gun: Maverick fame and Daisy Edgar-Jones of Where the Crawdads Sing fame.

Fly Me to the Moon
Starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, Fly Me to the Moon is a rom-com set in the 1960s during the Space Race. It follows marketing specialist Kelly Jones, who is hired to improve NASA’s public image and stage a fake Moon landing in case the US is unsuccessful in its attempt to really land on the Moon.

Kinds of Kindness
The latest film from Yorgos Lanthimos – who was nominated at the 2024 Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director for Poor Things – is Kinds of Kindness. Starring Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer, the film is a triptych fable (three distinct but loosely connected stories).

New movies that were released in June 2024:
Inside Out 2
The highly-anticipated sequel to the Oscar-winning Inside Out is a continuation of the first film, and will once again follow Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust – the emotions who live in Riley’s mind headquarters. However, now that Riley is entering her teen years, new emotion Anxiety (along with a few others) suddenly turn up in mind headquarters.

Despicable Me 4
Everyone’s favourite yellow, banana-loving creatures are back! In Despicable Me 4, Gru, his family and his minions are forced to relocate when Maxime Le Mal escapes prison and seeks revenge. This will be a fun one to watch with the kids and/or grandkids!

Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge
This documentary tells the incredible life story of the woman who reinvented the wrap dress. Diane wasn’t just the founder of an iconic fashion brand, she was also the child of a Holocaust survivor and a Princess by marriage… Featuring interviews with Oprah Winfrey, Marc Jacobs, Hillary Clinton and more, this is a must watch.

I Am: Celine Dion
Since being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, powerhouse singer Celine Dion has been unable to perform. However, this powerful documentary will explore her inspiring resoluteness to perform again one day.

A Family Affair
Nicole Kidman stars in this new romantic comedy as Brooke Harwood, a widowed mother who begins dating her daughter’s boss – the self-absorbed Hollywood star Chris Cole, played by Zac Efron.
